DKos this poll: AFA on Gay Business
Wed Apr 25, 2007 at 09:56:53 AM PDT
Here's a chance to tip the scales of this very homophobic group's own survey. The AFA (American Family Association) is expecting an overwhelming majority of respondents to say that they would be 'less likely' to do business with a company if they knew it supported the "homosexual agenda" - whatever that is.
So far, they are getting the results they seek. Of course, they are only sending it where they will get the expected results. Let's change the outcome by completing the 1-question survey and sending it to everyone we know who is tired of this archaic and hateful way of thinking.

Mass. State Legislature Passes Universal Health Covereage Bill !!!
Wed Apr 05, 2006 at 07:43:56 AM PDT
Today is a bright day for the uninsured:
BOSTON - Lawmakers have approved a sweeping health care reform package that dramatically expands coverage for the state's uninsured, a bill that backers hope will become a model for the rest of the nation.
The plan would use a combination of financial incentives and penalties to expand access to health care over the next three years and extend coverage to the state's estimated 500,000 uninsured.
This is exactly what democrats need to do to show the american people that they are capable of providing real change. Furthermore, this is a glimpse of how Dean's 50 state strategy will be capable of providing real results at the state and local level.

Culture of Corruption: Dubai company involved with Bush Co.
Tue Feb 21, 2006 at 08:27:14 AM PDT
Michael McAuliff of the New York Daily News has written an article that points out two connections between this Dubai company and the Bush administration:
One is Treasury Secretary John Snow, whose department heads the federal panel that signed off on the $6.8 billion sale of an English company to government-owned Dubai Ports World - giving it control of Manhattan's cruise ship terminal and Newark's container port.
Snow was chairman of the CSX rail firm that sold its own international port operations to DP World for $1.15 billion in 2004, the year after Snow left for President Bush's cabinet.
The other connection is David Sanborn, who runs DP World's European and Latin American operations and who was tapped by Bush last month to head the U.S. Maritime Administration.

Fuck No, Pat Roberts, We Will Not Let You Get Away With This!
Thu Feb 16, 2006 at 06:20:59 PM PDT
I know that this topic is being discussed on the front page right now, but this is not the time for theoretical discussion. We need some serious action. right now.
Update [2006-2-16 22:54:45 by chinkoPelinke]: In case you have no idea what i'm talking about, you can check out georgia10's discussion diary here, and check the article here
Every single democrat currently holding a national position needs to feel the pressure on this issue because, frankly, the dynamics of our democracy are at stake.
Republicans are pure traitors, they are failing to investigate the most obvious abuse of power that has occurred since watergate because they don't want to be hurt at the polls next year.

NY City Council To Weigh Bill Asking For Karl Rove's Resignation
Fri Jun 24, 2005 at 07:15:55 PM PDT
sorry for the short diary, but i saw this on my way out to hear some live hiphop in raleigh, and i just had to post it... will update with more content. but for now:
The City Council is weighing in on the controversial comments made by President George W. Bush's top adviser about the 9/11 attacks.
Democratic Speaker Gifford Miller says the Council will introduce a resolution next week that calls on the president to fire White House Senior Adviser Karl Rove.
The resolution reads: "Rove's rhetoric and cynical strategy of dividing Americans against each other for partisan gain has no place in our nation's public discourse."
-snip-
The City Council resolution also calls on Governor George Pataki and Mayor Michael Bloomberg to denounce Rove's statements.

(Updated) Bush was invading Iraq six months before "shock and awe"
Fri Jun 03, 2005 at 10:03:34 AM PDT
well it's not on network television, but the grassroots rumbling is starting to catch the attention of serveral news sources.
It was a huge air assault: Approximately 100 US and British planes flew from Kuwait into Iraqi airspace. At least seven types of aircraft were part of this massive operation, including US F-15 Strike Eagles and Royal Air Force Tornado ground-attack planes.
-snip-
But there was a catch: The war hadn't started yet, at least not officially. This was September 2002--a month before Congress had voted to give President Bush the authority he used to invade Iraq, two months before the United Nations brought the matter to a vote and more than six months before "shock and awe" officially began
-snip-
the war was already a foregone conclusion and attacks were no less than the undeclared beginning of the invasion of Iraq.

Should Senate Democrats Fillibuster Bolton?
Thu May 12, 2005 at 03:34:52 PM PDT
I certainly think that it would be a good idea, it would take away the republican advantage of being able to cherry-pick a moderate judge to use in the 'nukular option' and instead they would be forced to defend John Bolton, whose name has taken enough hits the last few weeks to hurt his image in the public arena.
It is also good because there seems to be a Bolton sexual scandal in the works, this would be another hit on his image, and would force republicans to stand beside a sexual abuser
sounds perfect to me, what do you think?
How will we react in 2006, and in 2008 ...
Tue Apr 19, 2005 at 08:56:00 AM PDT
when gop candidates step up to the plate with weak support from the public, and they still manage to get their candidates into office because of our corrupt elections process?
What are you willing to do? Will americans be ready to enact an orange revolution (i'd prefer a blue revolution) of their own? How committed are you to the ideals of democracy? Would you be willing to stop all of the things that you are doing for an indefinite amount of time for the sake of your country?
I would, any other takers?
Could we use a medium of mass communication like dkos to mobilize a crowd big enough to encourage others to come out in support for democracy? do enough people care?
Latest in Delay's downward spiral
Mon Apr 11, 2005 at 11:42:04 AM PDT
While accusations continue to mount against DeLay's ethics, or lack thereof, his best line of defense has been to discredit his accusers, and to label accusations as partisan attacks.
But as of yesterday, the game has gotten a bit more interesting. It seems that Republicans are finally starting to realize the repercussions of DeLay's actions and are begining to turn on him. And when members of your own party start calling on you to step down, it truly becomes a different type of ballgame.
Rep. Chris Shays, a Connecticut Republican, told The Associated Press "Tom's conduct is hurting the Republican Party, it is hurting this Republican majority and it is hurting any Republican who is up for re-election," in an interview, calling for DeLay to step down as majority leader.

taking down Schwarzenegger might not be as hard as you think
Sat Feb 26, 2005 at 06:10:39 PM PDT
Schwarzenegger seems to be his own worst enemy when it comes down to his public image. CNN reports that his approval ratings have dropped 10 points since 2004, and it comes as no surprise since he has labeled teachers and nurses as 'special interests' during one of his televised speeches.
As if that wasnt enough, now he has come out and said that he doesnt regret taking steroids during his body building career.

Preemptive research - likely 2008 republican candidates
Sat Feb 12, 2005 at 03:18:51 PM PDT
while it is perfectly fine to sit and day dream about the 2008 democratic presidential candidate, I think that we have been missing one important point.
We should really be focusing on who's going to be the next republican
presidential candidate so that we are prepared for the coming battle.
I know that it's 4 years away, and perhaps we'll have a clearer picture after 2006, but i say let's be prepared.
below is a list of 11 likely candidates, and strategies with which to confront them
CNN - Bush's NC visit is a flop
Thu Feb 10, 2005 at 03:50:06 PM PDT
first of all thanks to anyone who was there to protest his visit, now here's the good stuff.
Outside the Raleigh event, there were protesters waving mass-produced signs that read: "Hands off my Social Security." Others were handmade, including one objecting to the exclusivity of Bush's event: "Mr. Bush: Where is my invitation to the Raleigh 'Town Hall' Meeting?" it read, with a sad face drawn on.
haha! take that fucker!
Bush's SS scam isnt going to work and you can see it blowing up in his face already.

Newswire: Peter Deutsch to Assist Constitutional Challenge of Electors on Behalf of ReDefeatBush
Sat Jan 01, 2005 at 05:37:32 PM PDT
The Committee to ReDefeat the President, a federal PAC better known by the name of its popular ReDefeatBush.com Web site, has secured the assistance of Peter Deutsch, who will conclude his tenure as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives at noon on Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. Deutsch will help ReDefeatBush and other organizations that are working on a Constitutional Challenge to the electoral votes of Florida, Ohio and potentially other states.
Preparations are underway for a public forum on Wednesday afternoon at the Capitol at which Deutch will publicly question some of the key witnesses to activities that may have surpassed the boundaries of normal partisanship and crossed over into illegal activity in Florida. In his preparation Deutsch has the assistance of Wayne Madsen, an experienced analyst and investigator who previously worked for the National Security Agency.

Prosecutor Blasts GOP for Shielding DeLay: why the fuck dont ALL of the Democrats SHOUT this??
Tue Nov 23, 2004 at 04:21:08 PM PDT
- A Texas prosecutor who is leading an investigation into possible illegal campaign spending lashed out at congressional Republicans on Tuesday for changing their rules in order to protect House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
The House Republicans repealed a rule that automatically required party leaders or committee chairmen to step down if they are indicted on a felony charge. The new rule provides for a case-by-case review.
The change means DeLay could maintain his power if indicted in the investigation being conducted by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle.
"Politicians in Congress are responsible for the leaders they choose. Their choices reflect their moral values," Earle wrote in an opinion piece published Tuesday in The New York Times. "The cynical destruction of moral values at the top makes it hard for law enforcement to do its job."
